About the Project

Located on Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, the design-build Aircraft Maintenance Hangar consists of a new 76,983-square-foot Type II aircraft maintenance hangar with high-bays, crew and equipment areas, administrative space and a Secure-A area to support the United States Marine Corps Aviation on the base.

The facility consists of three distinct areas: the hangar bay, a two-story maintenance and administration building, and the Secure-A area. Both the hangar and the maintenance/administrative building are constructed to Risk Category III standards. The Secure-A space is designed to meet Risk Category II requirements and is classified as Closed Storage in accordance with the Intelligence Community Directive, Department of Defense Special Access Program, Information Security Program and TEMPEST guidelines. In addition, the Secure-A room, built to Risk Category II criteria, occupies a one-story, 2,478-square-foot structure that is structurally independent from the hangar bay and the two-story building.

Building electrical systems include power, emergency power, lighting, telecommunications, grounding, lightning protection and electronic security systems. Building mechanical systems include fire suppression system, plumbing, heating and air conditioning and compressed air. Site development included airfield pavements, storm drainage structures, domestic water service line, fire water service line, sanitary sewer gravity main, and an industrial waste pipe connected to the hangar trench drain system. The project also includes one 7.5-ton overhead bridge crane with a hoist. The structural frame of the maintenance hangar was designed to accommodate 125% of loading from the overhead bridge crane.

About the Project

At Nashville International Airport (BNA), 27 is advancing the next generation of aviation construction through the integration of Track3D, an AI-powered construction tracking and coordination platform. Track3D has redefined how complex airport infrastructure is documented, tracked and delivered. By combining 360° imagery, LiDAR, and AI, the platform enables precise progress tracking, improved collaboration, and greater transparency for stakeholders.

Delivered by the 27 and Fentress Architects Progressive Design-Build Team as part of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority’s (MNAA), $3 billion New Horizon capital improvement program, the $229 million, 190,000 SF Concourse D Extension expands BNA’s operational capacity while elevating the passenger experience. The extension adds five gates, expanded concessions and retail, new restrooms, airline support areas, and passenger hold rooms. Signature features include a moving walkway, large-scale art installations, striking “record node” rotunda and BNA’s first outdoor terrace with panoramic airfield and downtown views.

Scheduled to open in July 2028, the new Concourse A will be BNA’s largest concourse, featuring 16 gates, two moving walkways, indoor and outdoor passenger spaces, and expanded concession that showcase Music City’s local culture. This project includes the full demolition and reconstruction of Concourse A, a landside extension of the North Ticketing and North Baggage Claim as well as an airside apron expansion for dual Aircraft Design Group (ADG) III taxi lanes. The project also includes new and remodeled passenger boarding bridges and selective demolition/upgrades in existing Concourses C and B to enable airline and tenant relocations. Additional scope includes renovations of the North Terminal Wing’s baggage claim and ticketing areas, extension of the existing utility tunnel, a new North CUP and cooling tower facility, expanded landside surface parking, and an airside triturator.

About the Project

The Northern Colorado Regional Airport Terminal project is a modern 20,000 SF terminal strengthening the region’s air travel capabilities. This new terminal features two ground-loaded gates, houses TSA security operations and includes inbound and outbound baggage handling systems. It provides shell space for future concessions, hosts rental car counters and serves one to two airline carriers. The project team executed significant site improvements, including new utilities—such as water, sanitary sewer, power and communications—and conducted grading and drainage work. The project team rehabilitated and reconstructed existing parking lots and access roads to streamline traffic flow and enhance usability. In addition, they landscaped courtyards and planted greenery around the building, access roads and parking areas to improve the site’s visual appeal. The project team achieved LEED Silver certification, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable building practices. Finally, the Northern Colorado Regional Airport Terminal exceeded its 60% requirement for the Buy American Build American standards. This achievement supports U.S. manufacturers and aligns with federal economic priorities.

About the Project

United Airlines is upgrading the baggage system at Terminal C and E to make it faster and more efficient. This $102.9 million project covers 422,070 square feet, including three new baggage drop-off canopies, a modern bag control room, a screening area for oversized luggage, and a high-tech Early Baggage System. These improvements help move bags more smoothly without needing to expand the airport.

The project team included 27 as the Construction Manager-at-Risk, Siemens as the baggage system design-builder, and PGAL as the architect. The work was completed in five phases to keep the airport running throughout construction. Even during the upgrades, the system handled about 35,000 bags every day.

About the Project

27 served as the Construction Manager at Risk for Southwest Airlines on a multi-phase development at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, focused on expanding and modernizing aircraft maintenance operations. The project began with constructing a 146,000 SF parking lot, complete with pedestrian turnstile gates and CCTV surveillance for enhanced security. Subsequent phases included extensive airfield concrete paving and the development of a 34,000-square-foot Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Provisioning building.

After a temporary pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, work resumed with the demolition of two existing structures. The next phase involved relocating a key airport arterial road and constructing a 93,000 SF pre-engineered metal building to serve as the new aircraft maintenance hangar. This state-of-the-art hangar is designed to accommodate up to three Boeing 737-10 series aircraft. It features advanced systems such as a vertical lift fabric door, pop-up utility pits, and a high-expansion foam fire suppression system.

About the Project

27 provided Construction Manager at Risk services for the Sky Train Stage 2 project, completing the airport’s automated people mover system. This phase extended the train from Terminal 3 to the Rental Car Center, offering seamless connectivity across Sky Harbor—from parking and pick-up areas to Terminals 3 and 4.

Building on the success of Stage 1, which delivered the original fixed facilities, Stage 2 added a 2.5-mile guideway with elevated, at-grade, and below-grade segments, plus two new stations: 24th Street Station, serving economy parking and public transit and the Rental Car Center Station, linking directly to rental services.

Working within an active airport, the 27 team expertly managed complex logistics, coordinated with multiple stakeholders and maintained safety and efficiency, delivering a transformative transit solution that enhanced passenger mobility and airport operations.
