The Colorado Convention Center has been instrumental in the economic growth of downtown Denver since the early 90s. Initially built by 27������, the Colorado Convention Center Expansion (2024) marks the third project and second expansion completed by 27������. By leveraging 27������’ previous knowledge of building the Colorado Convention Center, the design-build project team developed an unprecedented plan to construct a 220,000 SF expansion on the existing roof of the 24/7 operational Colorado Convention Center.

The completion of the latest vertical expansion significantly increases the Colorado Convention Center’s offerings of meeting, banquet and light exhibition space, creating an unrivalled dynamic, flexible and destination-oriented venue with two new floor levels, the Terrace Level and the Terrace Mezzanine Level. The Terrace Level features the 80,000 SF column-free multi-function space divisible into 19 rooms to meet the needs of most any event, 35,000 SF of pre-function concourse space with floor-to-ceiling windows, escalators connecting the ground floor to the rooftop, a 20,000 SF commercial kitchen and a rooftop terrace with views of the Rocky Mountains and Denver’s city skyline.

The Travis County Civil and Family Courts Facility (CFCF) is a modern 430,000 SF courthouse complex in Austin, Texas. This facility was designed to replace the outdated Heman Marion Sweatt Travis County Courthouse, which was built in 1931 and had not seen renovations for over 50 years. The new $271 million, 12-story courthouse facility includes 26 jury and non-jury courtrooms and consolidates 18 different county, district and state departments. The facility’s design aimed to create a space that better serves the constituents of Travis County.

The Round Rock Public Library is a $30.5 million project located in the heart of downtown Round Rock. Designed by PGAL and built by 27������, the new three-story, 67,000 SF building includes an adjacent 300-space cast-in-place parking garage. This library expands the city’s core services with the latest technology, offering various meeting spaces and program rooms. It features classrooms, computer areas, quiet work/study rooms, collaboration spaces and outdoor access on each level. Expanded services for children include dedicated storytimes, space for activities and crafts, early development areas and flexible spaces for special programs and events.

The Hawaii County Emergency Call Center, located in Hilo, Hawaii, is a $29.5 million, 20,027-square-foot facility designed to enhance emergency response by housing police and fire dispatch teams under one roof. The new center aims to improve communication and coordination during emergencies, leading to faster response times and better resource management.

The center includes a main dispatch area, a generator building, a chiller enclosure and an 87-foot-tall microwave tower. Additionally, the facility features a locker room, restrooms, a training room, a communications center, telecom and radio/microwave rooms, a conference room, a breakroom, a fire lounge, fire storage areas, a police dispatch/briefing room and supervisory offices.

The 27������ and Fentress Architects team was contracted to provide design-build services for the $154 million Fred D. Thompson U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building for the General Services Administration. Located on 3.4 acres in the heart of downtown Nashville, the six-story, 293,606 SF facility includes eight courtrooms, eleven judges’ chambers, offices for numerous municipalities, custom artwork, a sub-grade parking garage and surface parking spaces. The project was designed and built to meet Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection standards and is certified LEED Gold and SITES Silver.

Establishing a new skyline for Sacramento’s River District, 27������ collaborated with our design-build partners, ZGF and Dreyfuss + Blackford, on the ’ largest office complex and parking structure to date. The May Lee State Office Complex, constructed on 17.3 acres at the corner of Richards Boulevard and North 7th Street, comprises office space and amenities totaling approximately 1,250,000 SF. The project also includes a seven-story, 1,291 parking structure and 317 at-grade parking spaces.

The May Lee State Office Complex features four high-performance, collaborative and interconnected office buildings. Furthermore, the complex contains a rich amenities program calibrated for the needs of building occupants on day one and beyond. Together with the project’s unique landscape program, these serve as the campus’ connective tissue, enhancing and supporting a connection between occupants, buildings, and the evolving urban fabric of the neighborhood beyond.

A three-story raised bridge between the two north towers helps connect the east and west sides. A second-level timber bridge across the Town Square forms an additional link between the two sides of the campus. The podiums further integrate the amenity spaces, including cafe spaces, a childcare facility, fitness center and 300-seat auditorium, into the campus. A green pathway serves as the central circulation spine connecting one end of the site to the other.

The May Lee State Office Complex project had a One Team approach from the beginning. To help facilitate this approach, the team elected to co-locate in a big room environment on-site. Design and preconstruction efforts began just as the COVID-19 pandemic was coming to light. The staff had to quickly shift gears to support online meetings and maintain social distancing measures throughout the jobsite. The team’s collaborative spirit and singular project-first focus helped them overcome these early challenges to complete the project ahead of schedule and under budget.

Additionally, the complex was designed and built to achieve LEED Gold Certification and is the largest all-electric, net-zero carbon building complex in the U.S.

27������ performed Construction Manager at Risk services for the Yavapai County Criminal Justice Facility. The project consisted of 107,000 SF of buildings, including a 152-bed jail, courthouse and support services, as well as a non-custodial building with a co-located mental health screening facility. In addition to the buildings, on-site infrastructure and site improvements, approximately 14 acres were constructed to provide access and utility service to the campus.

The 152-bed jailhouse includes all processing operations, such as intake, booking, administration, food service, laundry and medical infirmary. The courthouse building consists of operational spaces, including initial appearance, early disposition court and judicial chambers. Support spaces in the courthouse include administrative spaces for clerks of courts, county attorneys, public defenders and probation officers.

The project represents the values of Yavapai County’s citizens, the judicial system and the county’s commitment to restorative justice, alternatives to incarceration and comprehensive re-entry and reintegration. The new facility reduces the strain on the county’s large detention center in Camp Verde and the smaller facility in downtown Prescott. Other benefits of the new facility include the reduction in time to transport someone to a holding facility and mental health care on the premises.

Situated in the heart of Sacramento’s historic government center, the new 1021 O Street State Office Building is currently serving as the temporary home for California’s legislative and executive elected officials for the duration of the Capitol Annex project. Over the long term, this campus will provide additional state-owned facilities for joint occupancy by legislative and executive branch entities. The State of California Department of General Services (DGS) led this 472,000 SF project, which rises 10 stories above downtown Sacramento and provides stunning views of the State Capitol Building. The building fulfills critical office space infrastructure needs for the state, maximizing flexibility and maintainability while achieving DGS’ carbon neutrality and infrastructure resiliency goals. This all-electric building is Net-Zero Energy, Net-Zero Carbon, meets CalGreen Tier 2 requirements and has achieved LEED-NC Platinum Certification.

Located in downtown Martinez, the four-story, 71,000 SF Contra Costa County Administration Building serves as the new home for county administrators and a focal point for the surrounding community. The largest room in the new facility is the Board Assembly Chamber, located on the first floor. The second floor will serve as the employee entrance with the three upper floors being comprised of offices, workstations, interview rooms and conference rooms to help provide flexible working areas, as well as a wellness room, training room and staff lounges to provide spaces of relaxation during the workday.

The Contra Costa County Emergency Operations Center (ROC) is a new, two-story, 38,000 SF state-of-the-art headquarters for the Contra Costa County Sheriff. The building, situated as part of a larger County complex of building, works to connect with the existing buildings providing a unifying and functional flow. One of the main features and highlights of the building is the “Situation Room” that features a 32 foot x 13.5 foot screen at one end made up of 48 smaller screens. The room features a flexible layout with multiple tables and phones and is surrounded by smaller breakout conference rooms.

The ground level lecture hall, also a flexible space, features a glass garage door at one end that opens to allow additional seating for presentations and the electric stage that, when not in use, is camouflaged as part of the wall before it slides down to become a stage. This space will be used to address the media for public announcements and as a collaborative space. The rest of the space features a combination of offices, conference rooms and workstations, a kitchen, a gym, multiple outdoor balcony spaces and a BBQ setup with picnic tables. The site has gated parking for county vehicles and workers with a selection of EV parking spots.

27������ provided Construction Manager at Risk services for Maricopa County on the Intake, Transfer and Release (ITR) Facility/Detention Facility project. The project involved new construction of a 512-bed 72-hour ITR and a 1,280-bed medium-security Detention Facility.

The 189,000 SF ITR component includes four (4) courtrooms, judicial chambers, public viewing galleries and office space for staff, prosecutors, victim advocates and defense attorneys. The project also included administrative support areas, processing and release functional areas, jail and law enforcement spaces.
